about me

I’ve spent my life seeking the new.

For 7 years it was new knowledge, education, books, degrees. I spent all my time focusing on learning a set of prescribed topics, taught and guided by great teachers – University of California San Diego for my undergrad, and University of Michigan for graduate school. I walked away from that stage appreciative of my new brain full of numbers and facts.

Before, during and after the brain expansion period, was travel. Finding myself in a place where I can’t speak the language and everything is new from the moment I arrive is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I love seeing the amazing and experiencing the unreal. I love when even my imagination can’t compete with the beautiful chaos around me. I love finding the unexpected in myself and in my surroundings.

I am now entering the next stage – combining learning and travel and mixing it in with everyday normal life. I’ve moved aboard the S/V Tie Fighter, a 37 foot sailing trimaran, with my partner Drew. I’m learning how to sail and how to live aboard a ship while still working and living a normal life. We have goals of sustainability and self-sufficiency and seeing the world. Together we are heading out on great adventures, shoulder to shoulder, facing whatever comes next. This blog is about learning to navigate this new experience. Thanks for reading!
